Mount Victor is comprised of three other leases. Bought in 1971 by H.G McLachlan, Glenorchy was also purchased. Morialpa was bought in 1996 and Plumbago in 2004 – making the Mount Victor Station of today.

Mount Victor is a large supporter of the Operation Bounceback program, aimed at improving the rare and endangered Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby. Since 2006, when there were only 60 rock wallabies living on the station, Richard Williams has led a population resurgence to over 700.

The North East Pastoral region is excellent for farming Merinos. The work is challenging, but provides an excellent opportunity to be exposed to a broad range of skills and knowledge in this arid region.

Through August/September, the station will shear around 32,000 head of Poll Merino sheep. Mustering and droving is done on 2-wheel motorbikes, with support of fixed wing aircraft for aerial mustering on occasion. Shearing, crutching and lamb marking make up the busiest times in the year, but maintenance is ongoing. With some head of cattle also at Mount Victor, they are usually mustered on motorbikes several times a year for processing.

Nearby social events are well-attended with Yunta and Peterborough under an hour away, and Broken Hill and Port Augusta around two hours by car. Adelaide is also accessible, being only 4 hours away. Much like McCoys Well, Mount Victor is also in close proximity to the Clare and Barossa Valley regions and the iconic Flinders Ranges. Key local events include:

  • The Yunta Picnic Races and Gymkhana
  • Peterborough Rodeo
  • Port Augusta Cup
  • Broken Hill St. Patricks Race Day
  • Broken Hill Agricultural Fair
